Shirley 'goes green' with new Air Source Heat Pumps
We are doing our bit, along with the World Leaders in Glasgow at the COP26 summit, to save our planet. With the weather turning colder, our newly installed green heating system has been switched on, with a grand opening attended by pupils from our School Council, Chair of Governors, Mark Broadbent, along with local council representatives and staff from Boygues, the company who installed them.
The official red tape was cut by Mark, the Chair of Governors and Rosa from the School Council. Rosa said: 'This is really great for the environment, so we can do our bit. It was a pleasure to cut the ribbon and open it for our school'.
Also attending the event were Karl Tidd and Alex Wingate from Bouygues, along with Councillors Lorna Dupre and Elisa Meschini.
Shirley School New Logo and Motto
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the competition for our new motto and logo - the standard of entries was very high, and we have taken the ideas from 10 winning children and one parent,  to create a new badge that everyone can be proud of.
Sunflowers, people dancing and helping each other, pencils and a special tree of books all combine to create our new image. Our new motto is 'Cognita Vitae' which means 'Learning for Life'.
The following people all contributed to our final design: Leah-Mai Stocking, Bridget Buxton, Jia Hui He, Rosa Williams, Amina Miah, Tanzila Al-Shabaz, Natalia Tomkiewicz, Jennie Fletcher (parent), Bethia Cashman, Emma Thorne, Jiayi He.

We continue to follow all of the latest COVID guidance and our systems of cleaning the school throughout the day, as well as ensuring there is plenty of hand washing at key times, continue to operate well.  Children are learning well in their bubbles, and only mixing with children in their year groups at break and lunch times.  Again, we are pleased with how this is working, and this will continue to be the case until any changes to the Government guidance.
