DESIGN TECHNOLOGY
Intent
Design and Technology nurtures innovative, resilient and creative learners who think critically to solve problems both individually and as part of a team. DT offers inspiring opportunities for all learners to experiment with imaginative and practical skills to produce a wide range of diverse projects. Designers will follow a process to design, develop and produce a product, fostering a sense of pride and reflectiveness.
At Shirley Primary School, we believe that Design Technology is a vital part of the curriculum which enables children to become engineers of their own designs. Pupils are encouraged to apply skills and knowledge from other subjects to blend together their understanding of the world around them and their own creative visions of the future.
Staff at Shirley are passionate about identifying and nurturing pupil’s individual talents. Our DT curriculum offers children the opportunity to experience the creative process through from the very start of the design phase to the evaluation of their products. Our aim is to encourage every child to develop confidence and resilience through their projects and to offer motivation for learning about the world they live in and will live in the future.
