Anti-Bullying Week
This week we have learnt about different types of bullying such as cyberbullying, religious bullying, racism, body image bullying and disability bullying. In class we created posters to help us know what the signs that somebody is being bullied are and learnt ways that we can be a defender to keep our school a Bully Free Zone.
Cyberbullying is bullying which takes place online. The target feels helpless and most of the time doesn't know who is bullying them. If you witness online bullying don't be afraid to speak up and talk to a trusted adult. Since cyberbullying is online, remember to follow online safety tips and remember to block, report and don't respond or retaliate to bullying.
Bullying is repetitive and not a 'one-off' event. Although bullying can be confused with teasing and banter between friends, bullying is intentional and targeted behaviour.
In class we also learnt how to be defenders against bullying behaviour. Defending is the act of standing up for ourselves and knowing how we can 'Defend our Friends'. Be sure to visit our classroom window on the playground to see our fantastic poster which tells you how to recognise bullying and how to defend against bullying behaviour.
In our lessons we learnt about being an anti-bullying ambassador who stands up to bullying and helps victims of bullying. They are a safe person to talk to when you or someone else is experiencing bullying behaviour at school. They can support bullying problems and try to solve it so that they can prevent it from happening again, they can also teach younger children how to deal with bullying situations. Many schools have already got anti-bullying ambassadors and in Year 6 we think this would be a great addition to our school to help us support younger pupils with friendship issues and prevent bullying incidents. We have shared this with our school councilors and hope that this can be introduced in the New Year.

In computing, we discussed the benefits and also the drawbacks to using technology especially how this affects our mental health.
This week in English, we have written thank you letters to the Grafham leaders and we also wrote about one activity and how we felt about doing it.
We particularly enjoyed using B (brackets) O (order) D (division) M (multiplication) A (addition) S (subtraction) in maths even though it was a challenge.
This morning, we performed our class assembly over Zoom and we received some great feedback from Year 5 who really enjoyed hearing about what they'll be learning about in Year 6 and this made them feel less anxious.

This week in Year 6, it was Poetry Day on Thursday where we performed the poem Squiggly Diddily in table groups. We even invented our own characters such as Shelly the Seahorse.
Last week, most of us went to Grafham and we took part in activities such as high ropes, bushcraft and the mysterious Grafham challenge. We had so much fun there!!!!
In English, we wrote some persuasive letters to Year 5 after our trio to Grafham Water and we wrote about our top 3 activities such as sailing and rock climbing.
We have also enjoyed swimming and have started learning backstroke. At the end of the session, some of us got to take part in jumps of our choice including star jumps, pencil jumps and straddle jumps.
We learnt about African American history and we read a poem by Langston Hughes and in his poem he mentions the blues music and uses a lot of slang language.

Continuing with our anti-bullying work, we have been discussing how to find out if someone is being bullied and making posters to help prevent bullying. In Sea Turtles we have decided on our class slogs which is MAKE A CHOICE AND USE YOUR VOICE!
For PE, we have been learning tennis skills and were taught by a professional tennis coach. It was amazing even though some people had played before and some people hadn't. Our coach reminded us that in tennis agility and accuracy needs to come before power.
In maths this week, we have been learning how to use long division and have used this method to solve reasoning problems and some of us have even been dividing with decimals.
Lots of us in Year 6 have been rewarded with our pen license this week! We feel really positive and proud.
In Spanish, we have been learning the days of the week and the months of the year. Today's month is novembre.
