Our topic this half term is Food. We will think about the different climates around the world and what can grow there. The children will think about making healthy food and drink choices and we shall make links back to this during Health Week in June when we talk about how to look after ourselves.
They children will explore fiction and non-fiction books about growing food and see a time lapse video demonstrating growth. Then, they'll plant their own sunflower seeds and beans. Keep an eye on our blog for progress photos.
We plan to use some vegetables to create paintings and we'll have a go at growing our own cress which they will eat in sandwiches later in the term.
Class photos will be taken on Friday 24th May.
After the half term break the topic will be Minibeasts. We hope to be able to visit our school nature area to go on a minibeast hunt and investigate their habitats.
Perhaps you could have your own minibeast hunt and talk to your child about what they find.
Ark Farm will be visiting pre-school and reception children on Monday 24th June. A selection of farm animals will come to school (on the field) and the children will have the opportunity to interact with them. Look out for the information letter coming home with your child soon :)
A reception parents evening (for parents of children starting in a Shirley School reception class in September 2019) will be held on Tuesday 2nd July. You will be sent more information about this nearer the time.
