If your child is in Year 6, it's time to start thinking about Secondary School. At Shirley, we want the transition from Year 6 to Year 7 to be as smooth as possible. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to talk to your child's teacher.
Most Shirley pupils go to one of the following schools. Please click on the name to visit the school website and find out more about where you might be.

Preparation Activities in School
In June and July, we will be doing lots of activities in school to help prepare pupils for secondary school. These will include looking at:
- behaviour policies,
- uniform requirements,
- school rules,
- bullying and friendship,
- school timetables,
- travelling to school,
- extra-curricular activities and
- what to expect on your first day.
Each school is different so you should also take time to have a thorough look at your new school's website. This will help you know exactly what to expect when your child starts school in September.
Meeting Secondary School Students
Last year some of the students from the secondary schools, who used to attend Shirley Primary, came back to visit us and talk to Year 6 about their experiences. It was a great opportunity for pupils to ask questions and get advice from people who have been in the same situation. We are hoping to invite more students back this year.
Each school will have a transition day in the summer term when you will get the opportunity for pupils to visit the school, meet the teachers, meet the other pupils that will be starting at the same time and ask any questions. The dates for these days are being arranged at the moment. Take the opportunity to get to know the children from other primary schools as this will help you to feel more confident when you do start in September.
