Reception Curriculum

Welcome to our Reception page.

We have had an incredible Autumn term and thank you for your support so far. As we reach the end of term, we are thrilled to look back and note how well the children have settled and how much progress they are making in their learning.

During this half term, the children have taken to some facets of more 'formal' learning particularly well, and we are pleased to be able to share their successes with you. Phonics, Mathematics and Literacy sessions have been incredibly well received, and we ensure to meet each individual child's needs by adapting the sessions to meet our learners where they are at.

Forest school has also been a big success, and each week the children are growing in their independence and understanding of the world around us.

Well done Dragonflies and Ladybirds, we are so proud of you!

Please remember to look at the home learning so that you can see what your child has been learning each week, and how you can support them further at home.

Phonics

Our sounds for this week are: CK, E and R

As your child to show you the actions for each sound!

We are also covering 'G' for those of us who were unable to access the zoom sessions.

We are incredibly proud of our commitment to meet our learners where they are at, and build upon previous knowledge. To this end, we provide a range of activities in our phonics sessions: from writing in glitter and sand to writing on lined paper, digging outside to find treasure linked to our stories or practicing our dinosaur 'roar'.

This week, we have been focusing on letter and card writing, thinking about how letters usually start and end. We have consolidated this learning by writing letters to Santa and have used our list writing skills from our learning last week, too.
In Maths, we have been looking at capacity and using our Maths language to describe the content of different containers.
Information

Reception will be starting the formal P.E curriculum from January.
Currently, we do a yoga session or 'Just Dance' on a Monday afternoon. We also ensure that the children have appropriate gross motor challenges in the outdoor area which we access all day, as well as our forest area (Wednesdays). After half term, we will start our Forest School sessions on a Wednesday as below.
RFK/ Ladybirds: Forest School - Wednesday PM
RRE/ Dragonflies: Forest School- Monday PM

Children should have wellies that can stay in school, if possible as our learning is never limited to the classroom!

Pre- teach packs

'Pre- teach' packs are provided each week for those children who have English as an additional language. These will include key words or phrases to familiarize your child with, so that they are able to effectively access the teaching for the week. They also help to give you an understanding of what topics we are covering weekly.
