Music

Music
This is a very important part of our curriculum at Shirley.

The key skills of performing, composing and listening are taught to all children and they have access to a range of percussion instruments to use, as well as using their singing voice to develop these skills.

The school employs a specialist music teacher (Mrs Barlow) who teaches class music in KS1/ KS2 and leads our weekly singing assemblies. Singing is an important part of the school week; in addition to singing assemblies, children have opportunities to sing in class, in productions, at clubs and in talent shows.

We were delighted to achieve the Silver Sing Up award and we hope to achieve Gold in the future. This year we have introduced whole class recorder lessons to Year 4 which the children are enjoying.  Individual instrument tuition is available to children from the age of 5 years; this is delivered at school by Cambridgeshire Music. Further details are available from the Cambridgeshire Music Website.
